Title Postdoctoral Fellow
School Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health
Department/Area Epidemiology
Position Description

The Department of Epidemiology and the Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics invite applications for a post-doctoral position to work with Professor Caroline Buckee on a project funded by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and in partnership with the Clinton Health Access Initiative. The work will involve close collaboration with Dr. Andrew Tatem’s group at the University of Southampton and Dr. Richard Maude’s group at the Mahidol-Oxford Research Unit in Bangkok.

The successful candidate will work on spatial epidemiological dynamics, employing a mixture of theory and statistical analysis of data, to understand the spatial spread of malaria and the feasibility of malaria elimination in the presence of human mobility. The emphasis will be on the use of parasite genomic and mobile phone data to measure human travel and model the epidemiological consequences of mobility across South East Asia on the spread of malaria and the drug resistant parasites.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in quantitative ecology, population biology, applied mathematics, statistics or an equivalent area.

Additional Qualifications

Additional experience in infectious disease modeling, and particularly handling large datasets and using spatial statistics is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of publication; have strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills; and be able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
