Position Description

One or more faculty positions are available for distinguished scholars and/or practitioners in the Aga Khan Program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. This position will enable the GSD to continue providing worldwide academic leadership and problem-solving expertise, especially with respect to the design disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, and urbanism in Muslim societies.

Preference will be given to those whose research and/or practice focuses on the modern period, as well as themes and geographies that broadly relate to Muslim communities and institutions around the world (e.g., the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Africa). Candidates should be deeply engaged with historical and/or contemporary issues such as diaspora, risk and resilience, cultural heritage and historical preservation, and social and political dimensions. They should also have an internationally respected record of practice, research, and publications. Candidates will offer graduate-level instruction, which includes studios, lectures, workshops, and seminars in the context of a design school granting professional and post-professional degrees. Successful applicants may be expected to provide leadership and oversight of the Aga Khan Program.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates must hold a professional master’s degree in architecture, landscape architecture, urban design and/or urban planning, or a doctoral degree in the relevant field. This appointment is expected to be a full-time position at the level of professor, associate professor, or assistant professor. We will also consider applications for part-time positions at all ranks.
