Title Preceptor in Educational Innovation

Position Description

The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences seeks applicants for full-time Preceptor in Educational Innovation, with an expected start date of July 1, 2017. The position is an annual (twelve-month) academic appointment for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

The Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) established the SEAS Learning Incubator with the mission innovation of educational pedagogy in engineering sciences. This position supports Faculty Fellow(s) of the SEAS Learning Incubator to develop and coordinate innovative courses and curriculum, and also serves as a broad administrator for the senior capstone design project course ES100.

1. LInc responsibilities will include:
• Work with LInc Faculty Fellow(s), Linc education postdoctoral researchers to develop and coordinate innovative courses and curriculum and assist in the design/redesign of courses and in the development of program-level learning objectives, assessments, and pedagogy
• Administer and evaluate assessments of student learning and of student attitudes toward engineering and science
• Guide development and testing of teaching and learning materials and resources
• Coordinate and implement the pilot trial of newly designed/redesigned courses.
• Act as a liason to coordinate the Linc course development process with the Active Learning Labs team to foster advanced planning for design/fabrication projects support

2. ES100 Course responsibilities include:
• Organize the announcements/grading/feedback/scheduling/attendance tracking of the ES100 senior capstone engineering course
• Facilitate communications between students, their project advisors, and ES100 teaching staff
• Manage the course website (Canvas) and other online tools (Google docs, surveys, etc)
• Managing the scoring/grading data of the course and accreditation data collection
• Provide general administrative support as needed
• Attend weekly teaching staff meetings

Basic Qualifications

Candidates are required to have a B.S. and M.S. in applied mathematics, computer science, physics, and/or engineering (biomedical, electrical, environmental, mechanical) by the expected start date.

Additional Qualifications

In addition, applicants should have a well-articulated interest in innovative curriculum transformation and research and prior involvement with such activities, such as experience in the development of curriculum, online teaching, project management, and familiarity with current pedagogical research
