Position Description

The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations seeks to appoint a tenured professor of Hebrew Bible. The Hebrew Bible should be the focus of a candidate’s research and teaching. Candidates are expected to be able to situate the Hebrew Bible within its Ancient Near Eastern context as well as treat post-Biblical Scriptural tradition in Judaism and Christianity. The professor of Hebrew Bible will be appointed in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and will work with colleagues in the Committee on the Study of Religion, the Harvard Divinity School, and other departments in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2019. The professor will teach and advise at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Basic Qualifications

Candidates are required to have a doctorate or the equivalent.

Additional Qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research is desired. Candidates should evince intellectual leadership of, and high impact on, the field, and should show potential for significant contributions to the department, University, and wider scholarly community in the future.
